The Wren, The Wren by Anne Enright

Thank you Netgalley for a ARC for an unbiased review.

These kind of books are ones I tend to find have two sets of readers. Those who have a problem with what the overall story was about because they aren't sure what was being said, as it were, or those who absolutely loved it.

I admit, I fall into the latter group.

This book just had me sitting there several times, just taking in the prose and emotions. We have a book with flawed characters, and resulting complex relationships within a family.

We see how relationships are molded and how they can overcome trauma.

This book allows us to immerse ourselves into the different characters, that subsequently allows us to understand not only individual aspects of their lives, but collectively.

Nell and Carmel were the stand out characters for me.

As I mentioned at the start, these books are generally ones who tend to have readers who don't understand them, or those who love them. It isn't also easy when someone might say: but what was the book actually about?

The answer is for me, it is about the emotions it pulls from me as I read. It isn't as much about the storyline per se, but about the messages from it, that as readers we can draw individually from it. What I saw in a page, someone else sees it differently. I liken it more to works of art. It's that visceral reaction we get. Some love, some hate, and some are indifferent to what they see.

I loved this book. I happily give it 5/5 stars 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟
